Tech Communities Slam Dunk to Raise 10K for Local Charities

As March Madness wrapped up, another basketball competition took the spotlight. Last week, we hosted Raise the Rim: a three-on-three charity basketball tournament in which dozens of startup and innovation companies went head-to-head, raising over $10,500 for local charities in Boston, Chicago, and New York. Raise the Rim is an annual tournament that brings startup communities together for team-bonding and the opportunity to give back. This year’s beneficiaries included: TUGG (Boston), Future Founders Foundation (Chicago) and The UA Maker Academy (New York). All three benefiting organizations are working hard to promote entrepreneurship among local youth and fostering the next generation of startup-ready talent in three of country’s most vibrant tech communities.

Its start wouldn’t have been possible without early support from teams such as EverTrue, TUGG and CoachUp. As Harvey shared,

"The spirit of a startup community never ceases to amaze me. Raise the Rim's growth is a testament to all the players, volunteers and organizers who've made it happen, and who continue to make a slam dunk for forward-thinking charities year after year."

Sponsored by WeWork, a community-driven shared office space with locations around the globe, Raise the Rim was supported by some of the fastest-growing startups in Tech Nation. The 2015 winning teams, which got to take home the traveling trophies were: Fiksu in Boston, Levered Returns in Chicago, and Axial in New York.
